Please bring a towel.
Provides you with a basic awareness of injuries commonly found among the crew or guest: cuts, bumps, bruises as well as increasing awareness of classic on the water symptoms such as Hypothermia, Mal de Mer ( sea sickness) and rope burns. You may be asked to take to the floor for the recovery positioning so be prepared to get involved.
All sounds very serious for those who have never found themselves living in close proximity with others and in areas of the world where traditions/cultures and security is of importance. This course gives you an over view of how to respect your crew mates and understand the possible vulnerability of being the foreigner and keeping you, the crew and the vessel you're on safe.
This is included within our STCW Safety Training course or can be taken as a stand alone 4 hour course and is required by anyone working on a vessel to which the ISPS code applies
It is required for those who don't have designated security duties and aims to enable crew to contribute to the enhancement of maritime security, recognising threats and understanding the need for maintaining awareness and vigilance.
Cost as stand alone course US $95
We can't make you into fire fighters in just a few days but we can help you protect your vessel and crew with some exciting scenario training and real fire training. This element will give you a greater understanding of how to manage a fire, don on Breathing Apperatus while safely extinguishing any fire found. For this course we recommend you wear long sleeved tops and tracksuit bottoms and that you don't mind smelling of smoke, all other equipment will be provided.
There were changes to the IMO regulations following the Manila Conference in 2010. These included a requirement to update some of the safety courses every 5 years. If you did your Safety Training 5 years or more ago then you will need to update your certification before the end of 2016.
Ondeck Sailing are pleased to offer the Updating Proficiency in PST [Sea Survival] and Fire Prevention & Firefighting course which is required by everyone irrespective of whether they hold the Advanced courses and in all jurisdictions.
Firefighting is a one day course focussing on the practical use of BAs , hoses, nozzles and requiring a similar physical level of fitness as the full course
The PST (Sea Survival) course is also a full one day course and is the same as we offer for the full Basic Safety Training. Both have been approved by the MCA.

If you did your STCW 95 Basic Safety Training some years ago you may not have completed the Proficiency in Security Awareness course which is also a requirement for serving on commercial vessels. Ondeck Sailing run this as part of our full course as well as 'on demand' .
There are a number of other courses requiring renewal which we do not offer at this stage but our sister company OMT in the UK may be able to. These include Medical Care, Advanced Fire, Survival and Rescue craft.
In addition to all of the the above courses, we offer the PDSD security course for those with designated security duties (in practice most of the crew on superyachts) This is a 6 hours classroom based course.
It is a useful course to have even if you dont have any current 'designated duties' as roles change and even crew with minor roles should have the qualification .
The training will enable the student to:
> Know why ship security is important and understand the roles and responsibilities of the organisations and individuals involved
> Understand what constitutes a security risk, threat and vulnerability to the ship, its personnel, cargo and operations
> Know the capabilities and limitations of security methods, equipment and systems
> Know how to maintain the measures in a ship security plan and related requirements
> Be able to maintain the effectiveness of security arrangements, procedures and equipment at the three security levels, taking into account their limitations.
Having the PDSD means that candidates do not need the PSA
